This has been such a wonderful General Conference for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints... there were quite a few talks that spoke loudly to my whole being. I feel reassured and rejuvenated.
So here's what I was able to absorb from the talks that I could actually watch (considering I do have 5 young children)...
Julie B. Beck - " We can be certain we will succeed when we feel the spirit of the Lord working through us."
Keith B. McMullin - It's as important to pray with the spirit's guidance as it is to be guided to receive an answer to a prayer.
Wilford W. Anderson - even the devils believe in Christ and tremble... we must not only believe in Him but have FAITH in Him... to have faith we must keep the commandments... Helamen 5:12 And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the arock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your bfoundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty cstorm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.(I totally need to reread this later... I was completely moved by this talk and feel that it was made for me!)
M. Russell Ballard - It is not for you to be led by the women of the world but for you to lead them in all that is virtuous.. praiseworthy... Take full advantage of your relationship with your mother, learn from her strengths, love her, respect her, be patient with her imperfections. Mothers your example is important to your daughters. You are your daughters' first line of defense from the dangers of the world. "What you do speaks so loud that I cannot hear what you say." -Ralph Waldo Emerson A faithful daughter of God refrains from gossip or judgement. A daughter learns how to nurture by being nurtured. Talk to your daughters about sexual matters frequently and openly. Teach daughters about things of the spirit. Repent and remain worthy. Be strong and of good courage. It is ESSENTIAL for parents and children to listen and learn from one another!
Henry B. Iring - Straight is the gate and narrow is the way... Rescue those who have been led in the way of sorrow... If the children are strengthened in the gospel they will be less likely to need rescuing in teenage years.
D. Todd Christopherson - Study the scriptures and ponder them
Koichi Ayagi - (note to self - reread this one) Hands that help and save spiritually - a simple card with caring words can help someone return to the Kingdom of God!
Bruce A. Carlson - Obedience to the commandments... the safety of the church lies in the obedience of it's members -Harold B. Lee Obedience = Confidence
"When the Lord commands DO IT." -Joseph Smith Jr.
David A. Bednar - Spiritual warnings should lead to increased watching. Act to not be acted upon. To help your children 1. Read and talk about the Book of Mormon 2. Bear testimony spontaniously 3. Invite children to act - be doers of the word and not hearers only. Help children be anxiously engaged in asking, seeking and knocking.
Dieter F. Uchtdorf - Every person is a VIP to our Heavenly Father. Even though I'm a battered 20 dollar bill I'm still worth $20. Love at all times... be there in time of adversity for others.
Donald A. Hallstrom - How we respond can reset the course of our life. Hold on thy way giving up is not an option... trust in the Lord.
Cheryl C. Lant - What do my children see when they look at me... do they see the image of Christ in my countenance? 1 love 2 example 3 teach : steps to bringing children unto Christ.
Quentin L. Cook - Love even our enemies... conduct your self how Jesus taught... disagree w/o being disagreeable... show love and respect... They who live by the Holy Spirit of promise receive all the Lord has. don't surround your self w/ nonsense so you can hear the spirit. no one is exempt from the storms of life.
Robert D. Hales - Family meals together is not about the food but about the family interaction. Are you there? Connect w/ your child's heart. Actively listen Set goals with them and work on those goals with them. Bear your testimony to your children.
Bradley D. Foster - Stay on the road of truth and the end will be better than the journey. MOTHERHOOD! A distraction doesn't need to be evil to stop you from progressing. Never give up always go back for them (loved ones who have strayed). *Reread... so good!
James B. Martino - ♡ Reread -super good written for me!!! All things work together for good to those who love God. Find the good in all trials. Father in Heaven knows the end from the beginning. Become more earnest, sincere, find ways to serve others in the midst of your own trials. Lose yourself in service to others, forgive others, don't pass blame on others!
Gregory A. Schwitzer - Do not judge others - quick judgement can be wrong because you don't know the whole story. Many blessings can be missed when allowing worldly judgement where spiritual judgement is needed. The standards of morality are eternal. Shut off the noise of sin to let in the spirit.
Neil A. Anderson - Our job as parents : fan the flame of the spiritual glow that our children already possess from their premortal knowledge. Speak more frequently about JESUS CHRIST with your children.
So sad that I missed almost every moment the prophet spoke. Thank goodness I can watch it online here... YAY for modern technology! I hope you all had a wonderful Easter and General Conference weekend!
